The Middleweight Machines Taking Over Urban Construction

The 10T excavator class or category is undoubtedly among the most competitive segment within the heavy machine rental realm. This factor is based on the frequency of rentals among the various classes of excavators that range from the mini, midi, standard and large. The drivers behind the high rental frequency of 10T excavators are mainly due to the high level of versatility and practicality that these machines offer for almost any project size.

The steady increase in urban projects such as home improvement projects, renovations, landscaping and clearing has also been cited as a primary driver by construction equipment rental companies that offer 10T excavators for hire. Wheeled or tracked, 10T excavators offer the best of both worlds between the mini excavator categories and the standard excavator category as they are much smaller physically when compared to standard excavators, but are much more powerful when compared to mini excavators.

Among the more popular brands that have captured the excavator for hire market segment includes Doosan’s DX100W-7 wheeled excavator, Caterpillar’s CAT910, Kobelco’s SK100MSR, SANY’s SY16C and SY135C which are in high demand due to the practicality and versatility that this particular class of excavators have to offer.

The 10T excavator class generally offer an optimal compromise between compactness, power and agility which are critical towards productivity and project efficiency. For the most part 10T excavators are designed by manufacturers to tackle operations in areas that are deemed to be restricted in terms of space, but still require machines that have enough power to deal with the tasks at hand.

Doosan’s DX100W for instance is offered with an optional four-wheel steering model that comes with crabbing mode which allow operators to work the machine efficiently even in the most congested worksite. Most 10T excavators are developed for maximised lifting capacities and digging force, and coupled with the extended reach of these machines, most are capable of digging almost as deep as standard excavators.

The frequency of rental rates for 10T excavators over the past few years have been increasing steadily according to heavy machine rental companies due to the latest developments that revolve around these machines. From power outputs, state of the art technological features, safety features, reach and capacity, 10T excavators have gained ground on standard excavators significantly whilst leaving the mini excavator category far behind. The cost of renting 10T excavators which is significantly lower than standard excavators is also a driving factor that has been pushing the ‘10T excavator for hire’ segment to new heights.

There has been a shift in preference among contractors who generally hire mini excavators and standard excavators towards middle ground where 10T excavators are tucked in perfectly. However, for smaller projects such as home improvement projects or paving projects, proper discretion is needed as the size of these 10T excavators which are much bigger than mini excavators may be counterproductive.

In such cases, mini excavators would be the more practical choice due to the smaller sizes and manoeuvrability.
