7 Questions to Ask Before Buying a Website

Of course, I regularly have conversations with (potential) customers about creating websites. I have noticed that the same questions always come up in those conversations – Buying a Website

If you are looking for a new website, chances are that you also have one or more of these questions. I hope that with this blog I can already answer most of the general questions for you so that during our conversations. We can pay more attention to the topics that are unique to your company or website.

Here we go!

1. How much does a website cost?

The price of a website is usually one of the most determining factors when choosing a web developer.

It is difficult to link a fixed price to a custom website. As with the purchase of a house, for example, there are no ‘fixed’ prices for websites. It depends, among other things, on which functionalities your website should have. And also depends on how many different types of pages need to be created.

Most of the websites I make are about 8 to 10 pages long. Think of the homepage, an ‘About us’ page, a contact page, and several pages with information about different products. Often I also add a blog and I provide links with, for example, a service for newsletters. The price for such a website is usually between € 2,500 and € 3,250, but it largely depends on what you want to do with your website.

Because I realize that many starters do not have a few thousand euros to invest in a website, I also offer a “one-page” website. As the name implies, this website consists of one page, with information about your company and a contact form at the bottom. This website is especially suitable for companies that mainly want to have an ‘online presence’. You get a scalable system, which you can then expand as desired. The price for such a website starts around € 750.

I can give you a very clear answer about the price of an online learning environment. It costs € 1,647. For that price, you get an online learning environment in your corporate identity, which is completely optimized for customer-friendliness and intuitiveness.

Keep in mind that there are recurring costs associated with a website. This includes hosting, domain registration, and in some cases license costs for the software that we use for your website. In addition to the costs, you also need to consider the time it takes to keep your website up-to-date, secure, backup, and online.

Most of the clients use WordPress Super Service for many of these activities, so they don’t have to do it themselves.

2. How long will it take for my website to be ready?

An online learning environment can be delivered in about 2 to 3 weeks.

On average, a project for a custom website takes about 6 to 8 weeks, but that can vary.

Over time I have drawn up a step-by-step plan to divide the project into phases. This roadmap will help us stay on track, make continuous progress, and keep us from forgetting things, forcing us to go back and do things again.

The two biggest factors that determine the lead time of your project are creating the design and collecting the content for your website. Designing your website is a creative process. Often we are quickly on the right track, but sometimes it takes a little longer.

If we have yet to create all the new content for your website, for example, because this is your first time creating a website, that process alone could take weeks. With websites where the content is already present, the lead time of the project is usually a lot shorter.

If you have a clear plan in advance about what should be on your website. This will certainly benefit the duration of the project.

3. How do I keep my website up to date?

The most successful websites are websites that are up to date. And that is not only important for your visitors. Google (and all other search engines) like websites that are frequently updated and tend to rank ‘active websites’ higher in the search results.

I build websites with WordPress. WordPress is the most popular website building platform in existence.

I make sure that your website is built in such a way that you can easily edit it. I would like to show you how everything works in an extensive tour.

You can of course also enable me to keep the content of your website up-to-date. For individual jobs, I offer strip cards, where you can purchase the work from me per minute.

4. Does my website rank high in Google?

When you talk about getting a website as high as possible in search engines, you’re talking about Search Engine Optimization or SEO.

I always make sure that every website I create has all the basic elements (such as the correct structure and markup) for a good search engine ranking.

After your website is launched, I will submit your website to all major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing. As a result, these search engines will include your website in their database, so that they come back in search results.

The ranking of your website in search results depends on hundreds of factors, such as the content of your website, the age of your website, and how well your competition is doing. Another very important factor is how many other websites link to your website. Google sees a link to your website as confirmation that your website is worthwhile.

If you already have a website that has a good position in Google, you naturally want to make sure that a redesign does not negatively affect your existing rankings. I then make sure that I follow the correct procedures to not only maintain your rankings. But in most cases also improve them further.

5. What if you don’t like your web design at all?

Actually, this is not a question that is often asked. But I am sure it is often in the back of my customers’ minds. That’s why I treat him anyway.

I already make a basic design of your website in the quotation process. The moment you make the final decision about whether or not we will work together. You already know what the end result will look like.

At the very beginning of the quotation process, I will ask you all kinds of questions to learn more about your company, your brand, your taste, your industry, and, most importantly, your customers. We then design a website together with my designer.

Whether a design is beautiful or not is different for everyone. But I do know how to create a website design that is compelling and that entices visitors to become your customer.

By the time we start actually building your website, we’ve already made most of the design choices together. Moreover, you always have the revision round, in which you can mark all the points that you want to have adjusted.

6. What do I do with my email?

Before you can choose from the hundreds of email providers available. You must first decide whether you want to use a personal email address. Such as Hotmail or Gmail, or whether you want to use a business email address that matches your domain.

In most cases, as a company you want to use a business e-mail address, using your domain name. Think for example of rick@ram-ictservices.nl, or info@bedrijfsnaam.com.

If you want to use business e-mail, then in most cases there will be costs involved.

The cheapest option is often to use email services provided by your host. Still, I don’t recommend that. These services are often very basic and make it more difficult to switch to another web host if you ever want to in the future.

The more expensive options, such as GSuite from Google and Office365 from Microsoft, offer a user-friendly environment, where everything is arranged for you.

I myself have been using GSuite for years because I think the price tag of a few euros per month is more than worth the peace of mind. I’m sure I never have to worry about emails.

As a web agency, I do not provide e-mail support myself. I can help you look at the different options and help you make your choice.

7. And last but not least
