Principles and objectives of e-learning

Purpose of online learning

Also known as electronic learning, e-learning takes place via a computer. It is mainly conducted through the Internet. E-learning can also be facilitated with DVDs and CD-ROMs. Its purpose is to enable people to earn a degree professionally or learn to enhance personal accomplishments. In this case, one does not need to attend a traditional university or other academic settings. Whether grade school or graduate degrees, e-learning applies to every level of schooling, it is so versatile that it can accommodate any kind of learning style.

Online courses have gained tremendous popularity in recent times. But, are you aware of how to create an online course? Numerous robust systems enable the establishment of an online school with sophisticated marketing. It efficiently meets the needs of a business manager and allows you to ‘gamify’ your online course. Several online course platforms are popular among beginners because they assist the developer at every stage of the course creation process. These platforms also allow teachers and students to create action-oriented courses, which have become more popular.

Education in the Covid era

During the coronavirus pandemic, educators and students across each level felt the need to bring about rapid adaptations to online learning. Its impact and the associated developments for making it function could lead to permanent changes in how education is delivered. In the unprecedented scale of the current crisis, people are speculating about the future effects and education system in the post-Covid era. Some believe that an immediate retreat to physical classrooms is essential. On the other hand, the rest consider this forced transformation to virtual education as a momentary change.

With the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, schools all over the world have shut down for an uncertain timespan. Nearly 1.2 billion children have not been attending classrooms worldwide. It has given rise to a dramatic change in the education sector, with teaching being conducted on digital platforms and remotely.

Let us look at how the pandemic has changed the way of learning.

  • Digital classrooms- Nobody could have imagined that education would have shifted to the virtual model. Now, schools have developed the infrastructure necessary for online classes through Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and so on.
  • Collaborative efforts of teachers and parents- Since classrooms have merged with homes, parents are actively participating in overcoming the limitations of online education. The younger ones who are not so adept with a technology need special attention during online classes.
  • The more prominent role of teachers- Besides imparting education, teachers also lend support to students through counseling during this challenging phase. It implies that even in the post-COVID era, educators will have to come up with innovative teaching-learning processes.
  • EdTech firms monopolizing the system- The issue of private tuition centers dominating the educational sector stems from the unavailability of efficient teachers in schools. Since they are not well-paid in schools, prospective teachers find a better scope in coaching centers than teaching in schools. Though many courses are available, it is tough for a non-specialist to afford the expenses of those courses. Therefore, they fail to be the best option for schoolgoers. There is no point in opting for a course that does not prove to be an economical option.

Online course platforms play an essential role. They build a ready-to-use platform for launching rapid, simple, and profitable online courses. But, do you know how to sell online courses? There are numerous venues available for creating and selling online courses.

The future of online learning

The technological and administrative systems for online learning and the infrastructure supporting its delivery and access had to adapt soon. The allocation of extensive resources and development of valuable processes have been possible to connect students with course materials and activities, establish a connection between teachers and students, and manage the administration. There remains a clear path for the next generation of learners to adopt online learning.

The purpose of distance education has now shifted to ensuring that instruction is continued. It has changed the audience and the broader learning ecosystem as well. Therefore, it is interesting to notice which aspects of this teaching process exist when the COVID threat ceases. Undoubtedly, online education will find new audiences, and the expectations of instructors and learners will shift in all probability. It will further the gap between e-learning and classroom-based teaching and learning.
